Paul Klee was not just a painter, musician and man of letters, but also a very dedicated educator. It was this latter activity of the artist that caught the attention of Prof. Dr. Maurice E. Müller, the founder of the Zentrum Paul Klee. In order to make a lasting contribution towards aesthetic  education, Prof. Müller, together with his daughter Janine Aebi-Müller, created the "Fondation du Musée des Enfants auprès du Centre Paul Klee" – the Foundation FME - that was inaugurated on June 10th, 2002.

The idea to establish a Children’s Museum is based on the vision that children, adolescents and adults be given the opportunity to experience art and culture by their own creativity, motivated and challenged by Paul Klee’s paintings etc.

The Children’s Museum Creaviva is an independent organizational unit of the Zentrum Paul Klee, is managed by its own director and functions under the supervision of the "Fondation du Musée des Enfants auprès du Centre Paul Klee".
