The life of Paul Klee
1879
Paul Klee is born in Münchenbuchsee near Berne on 18 December, the son of Hans Klee, a teacher of music, and Ida Klee-Frick, a singer.
1906
After attending high school in Berne and the studies of art in Munich, he marries the pianist Lily Stumpf (born 1876).
In the galleries of Munich he begins his career as an artist.
1907
The birth of his son Felix amplifies the marital bliss. Klee collects his son’s drawings and first expressions.
1914
Journey to Tunisia with his artist friends August Macke and Louis Moillet.
1920–1931
Paul Klee teaches and works at the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau.
1924
Weimar, 31 March: Foundation of the group „Die Blaue Vier“ [Blue Four] by Esther Scheyer and Klee, Feininger, Kandinsky, Jawlensky.
1927-1929
Cultural stays in France, Italy and Egypt.
1931–1933
Paul Klee teaches and works at the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau.
1933
Ejection and defamation by the Nazi regime: 'Is it me who limps or is it Europe?'
1936
Record year with minimal production: Klee only produces 25 paintings. He suffers from a skin disease: scleroderma.
1940
Muralto-Locarno, 29 June: the death of Paul Klee.
