«Insights. A look behind the facade»
Interactive exhibition accompanying the ZPK exhibition «A Shining Secret. Kids curate Klee»
Opening: Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
Family vernissage with aperitif

With the Interactive Exhibition, the Creaviva provides insight and demonstrates the methods and ways of working that enabled the children to co-curate the new exhibition at the Zentrum Paul Klee. During the 10-month participation process, the team of the Creaviva Children's Museum was able to play a leading role. The project participants met every Wednesday afternoon in the studios and worked out different approaches to Paul Klee's work, got to know the museum, visited and evaluated exhibitions, built models and experimented with linguistic and creative means.

While visitors to the exhibition «A Shinig Secret. Kids Curate Klee» visitors can experience the results of their joint work, while the interactive exhibition «Insights. A look behind the facade» serves to convey different approaches to the work of Paul Klee. Guests young and old learn about the artist's mysterious world of signs, engage with his poetic work titles, assign works and titles to a selection of emotions and colors, and performatively imitate pictorial works in front of a mirror. By playfully throwing mosaic stones or by means of frottage, their own new pictorial worlds are created. Children and adults are invited to look at Paul Klee's works in great detail, thus generating new knowledge and promoting the acquisition of insight. Visitors are encouraged to playfully try out the working methods of the exhibition curators and to slip into the role themselves.

The exhibition architecture, designed by children, leaves plenty of room for the visitors' own experiments: The empty outer walls of the construction invite visitors to arrange their own selection of works and to arrange or curate the collection of works they have made. It cannot be overlooked that the chosen scenography of the children is at times reminiscent of a playground. The path leads through a dark tunnel with different doors that lead out of the darkness into the light, into the world of colors. There are places to linger and rest, others to discover, create and design. Different materials and textures are used to enhance the sensory experience. A tactile relief invites all guests to feel a specific work by Paul Klee and sharpen their sense of touch. The relief also allows people with visual impairments to access Paul Klee's work.
